The Ark Cabinet
The Ark Cabinet | Quilted Maple & Satin Steel
Furniture in motion. The Ark Cabinet is a study in fluid dynamics and rare timber. Designed by Peter Fossick, this bowed-front masterpiece marries the shimmer of Quilted Maple with the sweep of hand-formed steel, creating a silhouette that feels less like static furniture and more like a vessel caught in a gentle current.
Product Description
The Architecture of Curves While the Vienna Cabinet is geometric, The Ark is organic. True to its name, the cabinet mimics the hull of a vessel, featuring a complex bowed front that curves gently outward into the room. This "bombe" shape requires master-level veneering skills to execute, softening the hard lines of a space and inviting the hand to follow its contours.
A Surface of Light The facade is a canvas of "Exhibition Grade" Quilted Maple, a rare timber chosen for its deep, bubble-like grain structure that possesses a natural chatoyancy. The wood appears to ripple like water as the viewing angle changes. These vibrant panels are framed in pale solid Sycamore, creating a crisp, skeletal border that defines and contains the cabinet's sensuous volume.
The Continuous Line Conventional hardware interrupts a design; Fossick’s hardware defines it. The bespoke, satin-finished steel handles are hand-formed to bridge the gap between the doors and drawers. They flow across the centerline like a calligraphy stroke or a bird in flight, visually tying the left and right hemispheres of the cabinet together in a seamless union.
Functional Art Resting on swept, tapered legs that seemingly dance on tiptoes, The Ark offers substantial storage without visual bulk. Two deep drawers sit atop a spacious double-door cupboard, making it an ideal sideboard for a dining room or a statement console for a grand hallway.

Why We Love It
"It’s the handles for us. The way they 'jump' across the gap between the doors is such a clever, modern touch on a classic shape. It turns the hardware into a graphical element rather than just a functional necessity. The wood selection is also breathtaking—it truly looks like a topographic map or the surface of a lake."
